So, there was this guy in the audience smiling at me like my long lost grade school chum. My notes are out of order... I am fumbling... I have my ex-inlaws in the audience... and I keep seeing this guy smiling at me like he knows me and I can't place him.

It was nice to meet National Dealer.

And I had a great time, too. My report is on rec.collecting.coins and rec.collecting.paper-money. Basically, I took all week to be there. I exhibited and I qualified as an exhibit judge. Qualifying as a judge took three seminars and a half day looking at displays. It was hard work. I met a lot of old friends and made some new ones.

Most of my money went for books: Newman on Early American Paper; Head's HISTORIA NUMORUM, and some ANS anthologies on US Coinage topics. In Pittsburgh itself, I found a book on Swiss Shooting Thalers and a complete set of The Histories of Herodotus.

I just have to add my own opinion of the show...from a newbie's point of view. It truly was an experience like no other. It was so overwhelming that words cannot do justice to all that I saw and experienced over the weekend. I've been to a few shows here in TX, but obviously nothing of this magnitude. I am very grateful to National dealer for taking me under his wing and offering me his guidance in picking out some stunning Morgans...and a few other goodies, I don't know what I would have done without him. Thanks ND, you're a doll.

I would have to say that meeting Mr. Bowers was probably the highlight of the show. What an amazing man and a real gentleman. For someone as important and busy as he is, he still took the time to chat with me and make me feel at ease..even introducing me to Mr. Carr, with whom I had a great conversation debating some of the state quarter designs. I felt honored when Mr. Bowers asked to take a picture of me with Mr. Carr, my fingers are crossed that my mug doesn't show up in Coin World one of these weeks! Eek!

I also attended mmarotta's talk on counterfeits with ND and found it very interesting and informative. Sorry for not introducing myself mmarotta, I'm a bit shy at times.

As a newbie I tried to absorb as much info as I could all weekend and walked away from it all feeling a bit overwhelmed...I'm still trying to process everything I saw and learned. Needless to say, it was an amazing weekend. I can't wait for the next one!

Aw shucks, you're going to make me blush...thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to put a face to the name from here on CT, and I did enjoy your lecture immensely. As for the photo, I'm terribly camera-shy but how exactly does one say no to Mr. Bowers? LOL He really was a very nice man and impressed me with his willingness to take time out of his busy day to talk with little-ole-me.

Edited to add: However, if he needs info from me in order to print the picture, I guess that explains the email I just received from him!

This is all good stuff. I've actually never been to an ANA yet. And wouldn't you know it? Until May of last year, I lived in San Jose for virtually all my life, with nothing ever held in the area. Sure enough, I move last year, and now look where the ANA is heading next year?
